Ana Fonseca has been working tirelessly on her broiler microbiome project. So much so that when she was caring for the birds, she was spending up to four hours a day with them. Feeding various treatments to birds to understand how feed additives effect poultry performance, Ana analyzed things such as body weight of the birds and feed intake. She has spent many hours since performing laboratory work to analyze the microbiome of these various treatment groups. It looks like all that hard work is paying off because Ana’s abstract has been accepted for the International Poultry Science Forum (IPSF) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The conference will take place on January 24th and 25th, 2022 and is sponsored by the Southern Poultry Science Society, the Southern Conference on Avian Disease, and the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association. This forum has speakers and guests presenting on various topics related to the poultry industry including environmental management, nutrition, physiology, and more.
Following the forum where Ana will present her abstract, she is planning to attend the International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE), the annual flagship event for the meat, poultry, and feed industries. This event will take place January 25 – 27, 2022 in Atlanta as well. There will be countless exhibits and information on everything from feed to fork in these industries. Individuals from across the globe will gather including operation managers, engineers, researchers, and more.
Ana hopes to gain a lot of insight from this experience and as a laboratory we are so proud of her for attending such a wonderful conference! Stay tuned for a video abstract explaining more about Ana’s project.
